I'm assuming at this point you have your steam cleaner and you have to properly use it. It is a little different than most cleaning devices because you can burn yourself bad. In order to turn water into steam it must be heated to above 100 celcius. That will literally burn your skin, so you have to be careful.

You first start with the steam cleaner unplugged and you fill it up with water. Basically you have to unscrew a top on the water jug and add the water in there. You should never open the top when it is plugged in. On the inside you can experience a lot of volatile water splashing around.

After you fill up the jug with water you're going to have to air roughly 5-10 minutes for the water to get hot enough to turn into steam. Give it time to heat itself and don't go poking around the noozle trying to figure out why it doesn't work. It is also important to have the noozle pointing away from yourself and not at anyone. Typically before the steam comes out, the noozle will start spitting out boiling hot water. You don't want to burn yourself, so pay attention to where the noozle is.

Depending on the particular brand that you have, the noozle can let out a lot of water at first during the spitting process. If you're trying to clean up a stain on carpet or something you don't want to soak your floor, so sometimes it is best to let your steamer noozle sit in the sink until it is ready, so that you don't don't create a mess.

Personally, if there was a character flaw with these steam cleaners it would be the fact that it spits water at first. It's not the safest and makes a bit of a mess if you don't take care of it.

I guess the last place you need to watch yourself is when you're finishing up. You have to unplug your hand held steam cleaner and let it cool before you open up the top on it. If you open it up after you unplug it, you're going to risk splashing yourself with any left over boiling hot water.
